Mainstream health care is overcrowded with gimmicks, "cures," fear-based messages, costly treatments, extreme diet and exercise regimens, and unreasonable claims of what perfect health should look like. Who can live like that long-term, and does this mindset bring about real change toward feeling better? The Art of Health is a fresh and revolutionary approach that will help you take charge of your own health first instead of focusing on what "everyone else" has to say about it. It highlights that you are the #1 authority on your health and that you can take care of yourself not as an overnight fad, but rather as an art.

Dr. Patel draws on her own years of experience treating patients who have achieved significant improvements in their health and quality of life by following the simple, yet powerful guidelines covered in this book. The recommendations in this book are not extreme, costly, torturous, or promising of miracle results. Yet they can significantly help prevent illness, improve symptoms, and potentially even reduce dependence on pharmaceutical drugs or other treatments. Most importantly, they can improve overall quality and enjoyment of life.

Throughout the book you will learn

-How to pay better attention to your body and its signals
-Why understanding how chronic symptoms are interrelated is a key to healing
-The importance of choosing long-term health instead of quick fixes
-How both conventional and alternative medical systems don't have all the answers
-The power of the mind in supporting real health
-The role excess fear plays in health
-How unrealistic expectations can be an obstacle toward better health
-Why labels in health care can be limiting

and more!

The Art of Health is for anyone who is sick of all the rules and fads in health care, and who wants to experience real and long-term change toward better health. Health is wealth, so make yourself richer today.

Over the past 20 or so odd years I have read several dozen books on the topic of natural health and nutrition. So I wondered a bit at my sanity when I downloaded Aarti’s book (she had promoted it via one of the book-promotion e-mail lists). What else do I need to know? I asked myself.

Well. How about that I need to relax and enjoy life instead of obsessing over every single dietary rule? Unlike every other book on nutrition and health that I’ve read, this one not only lacks a list of rules for being healthy, but actively discourages the reader from following them!

The art of health, Aarti maintains, is to get and stay tuned in to your body, and to enjoy life along the way. I recommend this book to anyone who, like me, has had a load of rules crammed into their mind about health and longevity and as a result seen their overall stress increase. I believe you will find the author’s, who is a naturopathic doctor, wise words to be like an oasis in a desert. A balm to a health-religion wounded soul. [FILL IN YOUR OWN METAPHOR HERE. ;) ]

The Art of Health Simple and Powerful Keys for Creating Health in Your Life edition by Aarti Patel ND Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews

This is a quick, easy-to-read book that really helps guide the reader to understand what's best for their own health without shouting the do's and don'ts of what a person thinks they SHOULD be doing into their ear. Instead, the author encourages us to find what works best for ourselves whenever it comes down to our health. Patel does a great job of letting us know that we are the boss of our body and that we should be our own advocates. I also learned something that I knew all along, really, but needed to be reminded of--I have to be selfish in order to be healthy. She stresses this a lot and I'm glad she does; there is great advice in this book about it.
Speaking of "stress," it affects the body in so many ways and the author acknowledges that very well. I liked the advice Patel gives in general, the workbook-like questions that honestly make you think about your health and yourself, and just how well-written this book is.
The only thing that bothered me a bit was how many case studies were involved. It became a bit of an interruption for me now and then. Overall, however, I would recommend this book and I enjoyed it.
I gave up reading was not for me
Boring and I think a bit dangerous.
This book is inspiring. I'm not one to take medications or to spend time at the doctor office, so this book is a guide for me to live by for a healthier me.
The Art of Health is a timely read for those of us living in a “microwave” culture, who are conditioned to expect instant, dramatic results from a magic pill, a set of “5 foods to avoid” or the latest exercise routine. The picture that Dr. Patel paints of health and one’s relationship to it is refreshing and inspiring. She encourages readers to understand one’s symptoms as indicative of a greater underlying issue, and suggests that as we become experts on our own health, we develop the skills to best take care of ourselves. Management of stress was addressed a number of times and her suggestions in this area were helpful. Dr. Patel provides many anecdotes of patients whose symptoms improve as they follow the principles outlined in the book. Excellent read!
I very much enjoyed this book's encouraging, practical advice on setting aside all the drama about health and paying more attention to our own intuitive knowledge. The conversational style is easy to read and feels like having a chat with a helpful friend. The author presents simple case studies to illustrate points worth considering, while also making clear that what's most important is not any particular treatment, but learning to trust our inner sense of what is right for ourselves.
I truly enjoyed this book. The language is clear. The doctor goes over ALL areas of health and gives examples of client cases that illustrates each area she covers. This is very helpful because if the concept area she is covering is "foreign" to you, offering a client case helps give insight into how you can apply these new concepts about health in your own life. Also the client cases that are presented are about everyday people experiencing common health challenges like acne, fibromyalgia, digestive issues, chronic fatigue etc. The doctor wants the reader to understand some of the signals the body will "show" you when there is an imbalance. So reading about how the doctor treated the clients lends to a greater understanding of what body "signals" are and what to look for. My favorite chapter is the 2nd to last chapter entitled, "Doctor, Why am I so Tired?" Without giving anything away, who hasn't wanted to ask their doctor this question?

This book is so well written and the tone of the writing feels like a knowledgeable, passionate, and caring professional giving sound advice without judging. There are also "challenge question" that the reader can ask themselves as it relates to each chapter regarding each area of health that is covered. If you didn't understand how to cultivate good health before, working with your own body's natural healing processes, you will feel so much better after reading this book! Highly recommend!
